Inside the Tomb Complex: Bung Karno Museum and Library
The most convenient stop of all requires no travel whatsoever. The Bung Karno Museum and Library sits within the same complex as the tomb, just a short walk from the grave itself. Entry to the museum and library is free, separate from the Rp 3,000 entrance fee for the tomb area. Inside, visitors can see around 2,200 personal items connected to Soekarno, including clothing, photographs, and historical documents, alongside a library holding more than 4,500 books. Given how close it sits to the tomb, there’s little reason to skip it, and most visitors treat the two as a single combined visit.
A Short Ride Away: Istana Gebang
For a more personal look at Soekarno’s early life, Istana Gebang is well worth the short trip from the tomb complex. This was the childhood home of Soekarno’s family, spread across 1.8 hectares with one main building and eight surrounding structures, located on Jalan Sultan Agung. Entry is free, and visitors simply sign a guest book upon arrival. Beyond the house itself, an arts building on the western side of the property occasionally hosts local traditional dance practice in the late afternoon, worth timing your visit around if you’re interested in seeing it. Reaching Istana Gebang from the tomb typically takes a short becak, ojek, or car ride, since no direct public transportation covers the route.
Right Next Door: Kebon Rojo Park
Just a few hundred meters from Istana Gebang sits Kebon Rojo, Blitar’s largest and most popular city park. It’s free to enter, with parking the only cost, and makes an easy, relaxed stop after the more historically dense visits to the tomb and Istana Gebang. The park is well suited to families, with deer, monkeys, and peacocks kept on the grounds, animated statues, weekend flying fox rides, and plenty of food vendors selling affordable local snacks. Because it sits close to both Istana Gebang and Blitar’s train station, many visitors treat it as a natural final stop before heading onward.

Roughly 2.5 kilometers, about a ten-minute drive, from the tomb complex, Blitar’s Alun-Alun, or city square, offers a different kind of experience entirely. About a kilometer from the tomb sits the Pusat Informasi dan Perdagangan, or PIPP, Blitar’s local trade and information center. It’s a practical stop for souvenirs, local snacks, and handicrafts before heading back to your accommodation, and its proximity to the tomb makes it easy to combine with your visit rather than requiring a separate outing.

For visitors with limited time, a practical order looks like this: start at the tomb and museum first thing in the morning, when the complex is quieter, continue to Istana Gebang by becak or car, walk the short distance to Kebon Rojo Park for a relaxed break, and finish with lunch at one of the local warung near the tomb before heading to your next destination.
